Hope Team Criteria

Hope Team refers young people with psychosis to other clinics. Psychosis is a clinical term for the experience of delusions (believing things in the face of no evidence or contrary evidence) and/or hallucinations (seeing/hearing things that others do not) which feel 100% real and are very upsetting, all-consuming, and/or interfering.

Psychosis can be a part of many disorders, including depressive and bipolar disorders, trauma-related disorders, autism, and others. When psychosis is the primary symptom, a person could meet the criteria for a disorder such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.

We recommend referring young people with first-episode or early psychosis to one of the specialty treatment clinics in the Pittsburgh area.
